When are we going to bike?

This is the big question I’ve been hearing and it is an important one. Biking is the longest part of the triathlon and what most people neglect in their training schedule. Most of us are worried about the swim portion but that is the shortest leg of the triathlon, and while it is important to swim as efficiently as possible, the bike is where you can really kick a$$ in making up lots of time. So, Highland Honeys, now is the time to schedule your bike tune-up, get those road or hybrid tires or buy/borrow a bike so we can get on the road. I’ve heard good things about Johnson’s Cycle & Fitness and of course Wheel & Sprocket is great too. Here is a list of more bike shops in the Milwaukee area.

Saturday, May 15th will be our first long ride along the Hank Aaron State Trail. I’ll post more specifics as we get closer to the date. After we ride together, feel free to ride over to Highland for the Wellness Fair. Look for flyers around school, there are lots of fun things planned for the day, including a Kids’ bike helmet fitting from Rainbow Jersey.

I’m also going to, tentatively, schedule a bike clinic for Wednesday, May 12th to take place before our swim workout. This will be a chance for us to review important biking rules and get comfortable on our bikes. Details to follow soon.

Jill picked up some extra Milwaukee bike maps at the Trek training party, please check in with her if you would like one. I imagine most bike shops will have them as well. And check out the Milwaukee by Bike website, lots of good links on the left side of the page. This city loves it’s bikers, motorized ones too.

Don’t forget that the 15th is the Health and Wellness fair – maybe we could schedule our first long ride for the following week??? (H&W fair from 10-1)
